Vivian Mbene, chief operating officer of Lagos-based crypto-payment firm Breet, told Moonshot by TechCabal on Wednesday that the company’s primary challenge is making a complex product appear simple to customers.
Company background
Breet, founded in 2019, converts cryptocurrency into cash for individuals in Nigeria and Ghana and provides an application programming interface that lets businesses accept crypto payments and receive settlement in local currency.
The service separates the payment method from the currency a merchant ultimately holds, allowing customers to pay with digital assets while merchants receive local money without building a crypto operation.
“We’re just obsessed with simplicity,” Mbene said.
According to Mbene, the goal is to reduce the work required to complete a transaction by handling functions such as transaction monitoring, routing deposits and currency conversion behind the scenes.
“Sometimes simplicity brings suspicion, and when it’s powered by crypto, the suspicion kind of doubles,” Mbene said.
She noted that while a streamlined interface can lower effort for merchants, it does not automatically eliminate doubts about the underlying technology. Breet’s pitch remains that businesses should be able to use crypto as a payment channel while managing finances in familiar currencies.
The company continues to refine its platform to balance ease of use with credibility for merchants.
