On Wednesday, October 21, Mayor George Justice Arthur opened the sixth Inter Tourism Expo Accra (iNTTA) at the Ridge Royal Hotel in Cape Coast, outlining tourism’s potential to fuel Ghana’s 24‑hour economy.
Economic ecosystem
Arthur said tourism spending should extend beyond hotels and attractions to benefit farmers, fishers, food vendors, transport operators and artisans. He urged hotels and restaurants to source supplies locally and called for stronger partnerships between tourism businesses and local producers.
“Tourism is much more than travel, sightseeing and hospitality. It is a powerful economic ecosystem that supports employment, entrepreneurship, infrastructure development, cultural preservation and international cooperation,” he said.
The mayor highlighted opportunities for investors in heritage accommodation, cultural enterprises, food processing and digital tourism, and noted that Cape Coast aims to position itself as a global tourism destination by blending its historic heritage with modern investment and innovation.
The three‑day expo, running through October 23, brings together investors, policymakers, entrepreneurs and tourism professionals to explore opportunities in tourism, agribusiness, trade and digital innovation.
