The National Council of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) announced on Saturday, February 14, 2026, that the indefinite nationwide strike it launched on November 24, 2025, is suspended with immediate effect.
The decision, taken unanimously by the Council between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., follows the government’s release of funds to settle several outstanding teacher entitlements.
Funds released
The released monies cover:
- All year‑round work compensation
- Arrears of the 2023/2024 book and research allowance
- The 2022 research top‑up allowance for Akrokeri College of Education
CETAG said the payment is an important step toward addressing teachers’ concerns and expressed confidence that the National Labour Commission will expedite resolution of the two remaining issues still under adjudication.
Return to academic duties
The Council called on members to resume teaching and return to lecture halls on Monday, February 16, 2026. It stressed that the suspension reflects good faith and a commitment to continued dialogue with the government and other stakeholders.
“Your commitment to the collective welfare of the Association has been remarkable and deeply valued,” the statement read.
CETAG thanked members for their solidarity and patience during the strike and urged continued unity as negotiations on the remaining matters proceed.
