Comedian Prince Kwame Amoabeng, popularly known as Ntatia, told host Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime that his continued support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) stems from the party’s Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, which allowed his youngest sibling to attend Labone Senior High School without tuition fees.
Backing the NPP
During the 2020 general elections Amoabeng campaigned for the NPP and faced public criticism for his endorsement. He said the backlash did not affect him, attributing his stance to the environment in which he was raised.
“I believe that Free SHS was something that really put people on; students went to school and that’s the reason I got love for it. Our last born went to Labone Senior High School for free. Had it not been it, probably our last born may not have been able to go to school because it wasn’t easy. So I decided that for all children to go to school, then let me go for NPP and I’m stuck there,”
He added that after the loss of both parents he assumed responsibility for his siblings’ education and household needs, and that the policy helped ease his financial burden.
“People don’t understand, by then my parents were gone and Free SHS really helped.”
Amoabeng concluded by urging Ghanaians to vote for the NPP’s flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the 2028 general elections.
