The Ghana Education Service (GES) on Tuesday, August 18, issued a circular to counter circulating social‑media posts that claimed the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme had been cancelled and that parents were required to pay GH£1,500 for chop boxes, trunks and other items.
Official clarification
GES stated the publication is false, emphasizing that the Director‑General has neither the authority nor the intention to cancel the national policy or to impose any payment on parents or guardians.
“Management wishes to state categorically that the publication is FALSE and should be disregarded. Management has not cancelled the Free SHS policy, nor has the Director‑General issued any directive requiring parents or guardians to pay any money for chop boxes, trunks or any other item.”
The service urged parents, guardians and students not to make any payments based on unverified online information and advised the public to rely solely on official communications released through GES’s authorised channels.
GES reiterated that any such demands are unauthorised and cautioned the public to treat unverified social‑media posts with skepticism.
