The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) Law Students’ Association (LSA) held a breast cancer awareness campaign on its campus in October, marking Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

President of the LSA, Melchiah S.K. Mortty addressed the gathering, urging female students not to let fear deter them from performing regular breast self‑examinations or seeking medical care when they notice changes. He noted that not every breast lump is cancerous and advised professional assessment rather than speculation.

Association Secretary Josephine Tetteh reinforced the message, emphasizing the importance of familiarity with one’s own body to identify any unusual changes promptly.

Organising Secretary Abubakar Tanko Saddiq Nuhu added that awareness efforts should extend beyond October, stressing that early detection can save lives and calling for continuous education throughout the year.

University officials also attended. Valerie Elikem Kportufe, president of the GIMPA Students’ Representative Council, and SRC vice‑president Oswald Nii Aba expressed support for the initiative. The LSA vice‑president, Cecil Adrian Sampson, was present as well.

Ongoing commitment

The campaign formed part of the LSA’s broader commitment to inform students about health issues, particularly breast cancer. Organisers said they intend to keep the conversation alive beyond the designated month, encouraging the university community to remain vigilant about breast health year‑round.

There were no reports of incidents or injuries associated with the event. The association plans further activities to sustain awareness, and no additional statements from university authorities have been released.
