The National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) has called for an end to political interference in WAEC examinations, insisting student results must reflect genuine academic ability.

The President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), Jacob Anaba, has called for an immediate end to political interference in the examination operations and results of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

Speaking during a broadcast on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Anaba emphasized that candidate outcomes must accurately reflect genuine academic performance and student preparation, rather than external political or institutional considerations.

"Students' results must reflect their genuine academic abilities and should not be influenced by politicians, schools, or communities."

Scrutiny Over Malpractice and Subject Cancellations

While acknowledging that public reports of examination malpractice have seen a decrease due to stricter monitoring and punitive measures against offenders, Anaba voiced serious concern over the scale of subject cancellations in recent sittings.

"One worrying issue is that in the January month of WAEC, it indicates that we have the highest subject cancellation since the new exams started."

The teacher union president called for thorough investigations into the drivers of such cancellations, underscoring that maintaining the integrity of WAEC certifications is paramount for Ghana's basic, secondary, and tertiary educational pipeline.
