Ghanaian filmmaker Shirley Frimpong‑Manso is slated to release her latest film, Agency for the Dead, in cinemas on Friday, 30 October 2026.
The haunted comedy, produced by Sparrow Studios, will debut at Silverbird Cinemas in the Accra Mall and West Hills Mall before rolling out to other venues nationwide, including the University of Cape Coast campus.
Cast and plot
The film stars Joselyn Dumas, Yvonne Okoro, Omari Dwamena, George Quaye, Rhoda Ampene, David Dontoh, Mawuli Gavor and Anita Erskine. It follows two sisters who stage fake ghost encounters to avoid eviction, only to summon real supernatural entities and struggle to close the doorway between the living and the dead.
“The story draws on childhood memories and familiar Ghanaian folklore, offering a humorous take on ghosts and the afterlife,” Frimpong‑Manso said.
Production background
Frimpong‑Manso described the project as a departure into comedy, noting that eliciting laughter requires considerable effort. The release adds to a filmography that includes The Perfect Picture, A Sting in a Tale, Adams Apples, 6 Hours to Christmas, Contract, Potomanto, Love or Something Like That, Rebecca and Potato Potahto. Her Sparrow Studios has earned accolades at the Africa Movie Academy Awards and Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
Beyond Agency for the Dead, Frimpong‑Manso is collaborating with filmmaker Peter Sedufia on a three‑film slate marking Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary in 2027, beginning with The Return of Makunse scheduled for December 2026.
The film is set to open as planned on 30 October, with tickets available through the listed cinema chains.
