President Tinubu is expected to become the new ECOWAS chairman

The appointment of President Bola Tinubu as the new chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is scheduled to be made public this coming Sunday (today).

On Sunday, a former media adviser to the president named Bayo Onanuga made this information public by tweeting about it from his official handle.

Tinubu reportedly left Nigeria on Saturday and is currently in Guinea-Bissau, where he is participating in the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a tweet, Onanuga stated that the announcement regarding Tinubu will take place during the leadership meeting of the ECOWAS, which is currently taking place.

It is anticipated that he would succeed his colleague in Guinea-Bissau, President Umaro Embalo, who was recently in Nigeria. He is likely to take office soon.

The following is what the tweet says: “Today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria will succeed President Umaro Embalo of Guinea Bissau as chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS). President Embalo assumed his position on July 4, 2022, at the 61st ECOWAS summit held in Accra.”

At the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), which is now taking place in Bissau, an announcement on Tinubu’s leadership will be made today.
