PSG followers dropped by a million on Instagram, following Lionel Messi’s final game for the club

Paris Saint-Germain’s Instagram following has dropped by more than one million following Lionel Messi’s final game and exit from the Ligue 1 giants.

The French champions had confirmed their final league game of the season would be his (Messi’s) last for the club on Saturday, with an expression claiming they were “proud to have had the greatest footballer of all time”.

Despite scoring 21 goals for the club across all competitions, Messi’s final game at the Parc des Princes ended in a shocking defeat to mid-table Clermont.

On Saturday night, June 3, when PSG announced that Lionel Messi will be leaving the club this summer, they had 70.4 million followers, but it later dropped to 69.8m.  Following their defeat,  PSG’s Instagram following took a bit of a hit as its following dropped from 69.8 million to 68.7m, indicating his global influence at the club.

Although he has been linked with a news to return to Barcelona, the club would likely not be able to afford his salary and stay within demanding LaLiga financial limits. Al-Hilal has offered Messi £ 345 million per season to follow Cristiano Ronaldo to the Saudi Pro League. So he is either returning to Barcelona or moving to Saudi.
