Kumawood actor and political activist Sylvester Agyapong, popularly known as Papa Sly, submitted his nomination forms to contest the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Ashanti Regional Deputy Organiser position at the party’s regional secretariat in Kumasi.
He was accompanied by fellow entertainment industry figures, including actors Michael Afranie, Taylor, Zack GH and Nana Siaw, who attended the filing to show support.
Papa Sly has previously supported the NDC, notably through the Kumawood Stars for Mahama campaign during the 2024 general elections, and was appointed Deputy Political Coordinator of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in August 2025 after the party’s electoral victory. He earlier served as a Constituency Communications Officer.
In remarks after filing, he said his background in grassroots mobilisation and party communication would help attract additional supporters, particularly undecided voters, to the NDC in the Ashanti Region, which he described as a key battleground for upcoming elections. He pledged to strengthen grassroots structures, improve coordination among branch executives and develop new ways of engaging young people and members of the creative industry.
The actor also called for a peaceful campaign among contestants, urging colleagues to avoid insults, personal attacks and character assassination, and to preserve unity within the party ahead of the next general elections.
