Ghanaian reggae‑dancehall artist Stonebwoy visited the national amputee football team, the Black Challenge, at Mensah Sarbah Park on the University of Ghana campus last Friday, presenting a cash donation of GH¢100,000 to support the squad’s preparation for the 2026 Amputee Football World Cup in Mexico.
Donation and remarks
The donation was handed to Mrs Farida Iddris, an executive member of the National Paralympic Committee and the Ghana Swimming Association, together with the team’s captain. Stonebwoy, who has previously walked on crutches, said disability should never be a source of ridicule and urged Ghanaians to treat persons with disabilities with dignity and respect.
“Nothing about disability is funny.”
He added that mocking people with disabilities reflects ignorance and immaturity.
Team’s preparation
The Black Challenge, which has secured three African titles in 2021, 2023 and 2025, will travel to Turkey for final training before heading to San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, for the tournament. Ghana has been drawn in a group with Iraq, Angola and Colombia.
President of the African Paralympic Committee Samson Deen expressed confidence in the team’s ability to perform well at the championship. Stonebwoy encouraged the players to give their best in Mexico and called on Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they do for the Black Stars.
The visit concluded with Stonebwoy joining the players for a brief ball session, demonstrating his support ahead of the global competition.
