Tinubu is congratulated by the Senate on his election as ECOWAS head

In a moment of celebration, the Nigerian Senate gracefully embraced a motion put forth by the esteemed Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau. This motion extended heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his remarkable ascension to the prestigious position of Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

In a captivating manner, Barau brought forth a motion that captured the attention of the esteemed upper legislative chamber. He highlighted the remarkable emergence of President Tinubu as the Chairman of ECOWAS, a prestigious position attained at the recently concluded 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of ECOWAS. This momentous event took place in the vibrant capital of the Republic of Guinea-Bissau, Bissau.

By nominating a Nigerian leader just two months after he assumed the role of President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, West African countries have demonstrated their unwavering faith in Nigeria’s ability to lead and guide other nations in the subregion.

He exclaimed that by securing this significant and strategic position on his inaugural attendance at a prestigious ECOWAS meeting, just two months after assuming the presidency, the regional organization has shown immense trust in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership abilities. This also serves as a strong affirmation of Nigeria’s prominent role in both the African continent as a whole and the sub-region specifically.

Barau, the esteemed representative of Kano North Senatorial District, exuded confidence in President Tinubu’s role as the distinguished leader of ECOWAS. He firmly believed that President Tinubu, with his unwavering commitment to upholding the ECOWAS protocol, would diligently foster peace and effectively resolve conflicts within the subregion.

In a heartfelt appeal, Orji Uzor Kalu, the former governor of Abia State and esteemed senator representing Abia North senatorial district, passionately implored President Tinubu to take proactive measures in urging ECOWAS nations to put an end to the mistreatment faced by Nigerians residing and engaging in lawful businesses within their borders.

“We are delighted by the appointment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the Chairman of ECOWAS, which brings a wave of positivity. We eagerly anticipate that he will utilize his esteemed position to safeguard the well-being of our fellow Nigerians who unfortunately face mistreatment in certain African nations,” expressed the individual.

In a passionate plea, Senator Titus Tartenger Zam, the esteemed representative of Benue North West senatorial district, implored President Tinubu to take a firm stand against those who dare to trespass into our beloved nation’s territory. With unwavering conviction, he asserted that these audacious intruders bear the responsibility for the relentless onslaughts we have been facing.

He elaborated on the origins of the elements targeting Nigerians, revealing that they hail from the neighboring ECOWAS countries as well as Cameroon.

In his perspective, he believes that the President’s elevation to the leadership of ECOWAS will provide us with a unique opportunity to tackle security challenges from a privileged standpoint.

During his address, Senate President Godswill Akpabio extended warm wishes to the President and embraced the revised proposal that “principal officers will personally convey their congratulations to him.”
