KETASCO clinched both boys' and girls' championships in the inaugural Volta Region Mental Slam, defeating Mawuli School in both finals.

Keta Senior High Technical School (KETASCO) secured the top spot in both the boys' and girls' divisions of the maiden Volta Region edition of the Mental Slam basketball competition.

In the boys' final, KETASCO edged host Mawuli School by a single point, 22–21, to claim the trophy. The team had earlier booked a place in the final by defeating Awudome Senior High School, scoring 25 points in a 42‑point match.

The girls' final saw KETASCO dominate Mawuli School with a 30–6 victory, after qualifying for the final by beating Ola Girls Senior High School 6–3 in a two‑quarter game.

Ola Girls Senior High School finished third in the girls' category after overcoming Awudome Senior High School, which had previously lost to KETASCO 24–7. Bishop Herman College did not win any matches, losing to both Mawuli and Awudome.

Programmes Head Comments

The Head of Programmes for the KGL Foundation, Nii Ankonu Annorbah‑Sarpei, congratulated the winners and urged the other schools to keep practising.

“Particularly for us, Mental‑Slam is under our mental health initiative, which is basically to give young people access to information, particularly about mental health,” he said.

Annorbah‑Sarpei explained that the competition is part of a broader effort to promote mental‑health awareness among teenagers, a group identified as prone to anxiety and depression. He noted that the KGL Foundation plans to equip selected schools, including KETASCO, Mawuli School, Bishop Herman College, Ola Senior High School and Awudome Senior High School, with well‑fitted counselling centres.

Trophies and gold medals were presented to the winning teams, while silver and bronze medals went to the second‑ and third‑placed schools respectively. Participants were reminded to avoid doping or using substances as energy boosters.
