Debibi United CEO Alexander Ababio on Sunday rebuked Bibiani GoldStars coach Petros Koukouras for describing the club’s home ground, Debibi Presby Park, as “more suitable for cassava farming than football.”
Koukouras had made the remarks after his side lost 1‑0 to Debibi United on Matchday 7 of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League. Speaking to Nhyira FM, the Greek coach said the playing surface resembled a cassava field.
“If that’s how they grow cassava in his country [Greek], then I don't know how they feed them,” Ababio said.
Ababio called the comment “reckless and unreasonable” and urged the coach to focus on his professional duties.
“He should think about his job and stop saying nonsense. It was a reckless and unreasonable statement,” he added.
The CEO noted that Debibi United, newcomers to the league, sit in the bottom three after eight games with seven points and will host Hearts of Oak at the same venue on Sunday.
“Our target is to remain in the league despite our poor start to the season,” Ababio said.
Ababio’s remarks come amid ongoing debate over pitch conditions in Ghana football, with several foreign coaches raising similar concerns.
