Ghana's national football team, the Black Stars, sit at the bottom of Group C in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after a 2‑0 loss to Ivory Coast in Bouaké and a 4‑2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.
“I must admit that nobody would want to be in my situation when the Black Stars played against The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium,” Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Iddie Adams told Asempa FM. “It was difficult to watch the team lose. I could not believe what happened, but I am convinced the team will qualify for the AFCON tournament.”
The back‑to‑back defeats have prompted the departure of former Portuguese coach Carlos Queiroz as the senior team’s tactician.
Upcoming fixtures
Ghana will host Somalia in a double‑header at the Accra Sports Stadium in November, with both matches critical for reviving the qualification campaign. A temporary technical team is expected to be assembled for the upcoming games.
The 2027 AFCON will be co‑hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. The ministry said it will continue to monitor the team's progress as the qualifiers proceed.
