President John Dramani Mahama concluded the two‑day Resetting Ghana Tour of the Ahafo Region on Saturday with a citizens’ engagement in Goaso, the regional capital.
Addressing chiefs, traditional leaders and residents, the president thanked them for their support in the 2024 general election, noting that the National Democratic Congress secured five of the six parliamentary seats in the region.
Key programmes highlighted
Mahama outlined several government interventions slated for the region, including road works under the Big Push Infrastructure Development Programme, the Free Primary Healthcare Initiative, and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund – popularly known as MahamaCares – which finances treatment for chronic and high‑cost conditions such as cancer and dialysis.
The president also referenced the District Assemblies Common Fund, the Farmer Service Centres initiative, poultry farming support and irrigation projects aimed at boosting agricultural output.
As part of preparations for Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary, he directed that roads in all 16 regional capitals, including Goaso, be rehabilitated or constructed. Work has already begun on selected roads in Accra and will be extended to other capitals.
The nationwide Resetting Ghana Tour is intended to bring governance closer to the grassroots, inspect ongoing infrastructure projects and engage directly with citizens and traditional authorities.
Mahama affirmed that the government will continue to pursue economic recovery efforts and ensure that the Ahafo Region receives its fair share of national development.
